Help: If your HUD looks messed up!

If your mesh HUDs are not appearing properly and look all messed up on your screen, that’s probably because your Second Life viewer’s Level of Detail (LOD) Distance Factors are too low in your Graphic settings. Your LOD number is probably at around 0.875, which is too low to view mesh attached to your HUD.

If your LOD number is not low, then try right-clicking the HUD to select it. Just right-clicking it might make the mesh load properly.

If your LOD number is too low, all you have to do is raise the LOD number. There are 3 ways to do this, one of them is this one:

1. Open your Preferences menu (Avatar > Preferences or type Ctrl + P).

2. In Preferences, go to Graphics and then General tab.

3. Find the section that says “Level of Detail (LOD) Distance Factors: Objects & Sculpts LOD”. Raise the number to at least 1.250 or more. Higher numbers are better (4.000 is the maximum).

You can also do the same thing using your Quick Preferences panel: http://wiki.phoenixviewer.com/fs_quick_preferences

Another way to raise the LOD factor and fix mesh viewing is this:

To see mesh and sculpties better go to: Advanced Menu–>Show Debug Settings–>Type in “RenderVolumeLODFactor”–>Set to 4.
To fix mesh if it appears invisible: Advanced Menu–>Show Debug Settings–>Type in “MeshMaxConcurrent Request” –>Raise the number.

Level of detail (LOD) is a term used in game development which refers to a method where an object will change in mesh detail based on its distance from the camera. In Second Life, virtually everything uses LOD techniques, including things like objects, avatars, textures, trees, and even land.

Level of Detail (LOD) is the mechanism by which Second Life lowers an object’s visual detail by increments as the camera gets further away.

"LOD stands for LEVEL OF DETAIL. Every Mesh object has Four Levels of Detail and each level is visible depending on the distance between the object and your avatar. The best way i feel is to imagine every mesh object is surrounded by three rings, each representing a level of detail. The most detailed level at the centre, and the less detailed on the outside ring. As you step closer to the object you step out of one ring into another, and thats when the LOD changes to a more detailed level."    http://www.lokieliot.com/blog/?p=670
